Every Child Matters Orange shirt
Baakaate Baaxpuak "Children are Sacred" This is the Apsaalooke rendition of the orange shirt created in collaboration with the LBHC Akbacheeitchileewioosh Crow Tribal Youth Council to honor the children that didn't come back from Indian Residential and Boarding schools. Proceeds from the sale of these shirts will be donated to the Crow Tribal Youth Council.
The Apsaalooke People, Crow Tribe, believe that children are sacred and the most purest and closest to the creator. We acknowledge this sacredness in our ceremonies from which the representation and imagery on this shirt is illustrated. This orange shirt depicts the 10 lunar cycles a child is carried in the womb, after which a child is traditionally secured in a cradleboard. The back of the shirt depicts the 7 big horn sheep and their importance from which the Apsaalooke people seek strength. The 7 stars also represent the 7 buffalo bulls that vowed to watch over and protect the Apsaalooke People. The 7 stars is the constellation that also known as the Big Dipper.
Additionally, handprints of the young children, on both the front and back, to demonstrate how young children were when they were taken from their mothers, fathers, grandparents, and families. The imprint they left on our lives forever, if they returned or not affects every Indigenous person you meet.
You are welcome to wear and represent this cause even if you are not an Indigenous person. Thank you for your respect and allyship.
